Creating shared value.

Ironveld recognises the importance of strong, open and professional relationships with the communities located near and within the project area and actively engages with the community representatives on a regular basis, in order to address the various statutory and other programmes and initiatives that Ironveld is developing to meet the communities development and growth agendas.

The local communities hold shares in the company through the BBBEE companies that have a shareholding in the operating companies that make up the Ironveld Group. This shareholding is 26% as per the BBBEE's Code of Good Practice and the Mining Charter.

To support the communities, in addition to the statutory Social Labour Programme which addresses education, health and infrastructure needs of the communities Ironnveld also has a Community Development Agreement which is currently been negotiated with each community to help communities meet their particular aspirations. In addition, Ironveld has established and is developing a number of social initiatives.

Social Labour Plan

The Mine Petroleum and Resources Development Act, 2002 (Act No. 28 of 2002) (MPRDA) requires the submission of a document as a requirement for the granting of a Mining Right. This document is called a ‘Social and Labour Plan’ (SLP) and it is part of the MPRDA’s efforts to transform the mining and production industries effectively.

The components of the SLP include: the development and implementation of Human Resources Development Programmes; Mine Community Development Plan; Housing and Living Conditions Plan; and Employment Equity Plan, as well as processes to save jobs and manage downscaling and/or closure. These plans are aimed at promoting employment and advancement of the social and economic welfare of all South Africans whilst ensuring economic growth and socio-economic development.

Ironveld currently has 2 (two) Mining Rights held by its subsidiaries, namely Lapon Mining (Pty) Ltd (Lapon) and HW Iron (Pty) Ltd (HW Iron) respectively. Moreover, an application for a third Mining Right has been duly lodged at the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy in September 2022 for another one of its subsidiaries named Luge Mining and Exploration Company (Pty) Ltd (Luge).

Infrastructure Development

LAPON MINING

  • The implementation of a water scheme to supply water to the existing municipal infrastructure under the Waterberg and Capricorn District Municipalities.

  • The implementation of electricity upgrades and electrification to the host communities for connection to the existing municipal infrastructure under the Waterberg and Capricorn District Municipalities.

  • The implementation of roads and stormwater infrastructure for connection to the existing municipal roads infrastructure under the Waterberg and Capricorn District Municipalities.

HW IRON

  • A water scheme to supply water to the existing municipal infrastructure under the Capricorn District Municipality.

  • Electricity upgrades and electrification for connection of the host community to the existing municipal infrastructure.

  • Roads and stormwater infrastructure for connection to the existing municipal roads.

LUGE

  • The implementation of a water scheme to supply water to the existing municipal infrastructure under the Waterberg District Municipality.  

  • The implementation of electricity upgrades and electrification to the host communities for connection to the existing municipal infrastructure under the Waterberg District Municipality.

  • The implementation of roads and stormwater infrastructure for connection to the existing municipal roads infrastructure under the Waterberg District Municipality.

Welfare & Education

Keeping Girls In School

Working alongside our local partners, The Imbumba Foundation and the Nelson Mandela Foundation, to provide hygiene support to approximately 600 female students at school in the local area.

Community Days

Ironveld supports various community days organised by the youth in the various communities by supplying care pack, food and prizes for competitions. In addition Ironveld has supplied blankets to the elderly in the community.

Computer Training

Ironveld has worked with young woman from the community who have established a small internet café and offer internet access and computer training to the community.
