Bernard is an Admitted Advocate of the High Court, and he holds an LLB degree from the University of Pretoria.

He further holds a Certificate in Municipal Governance & Leadership from University of Witswatersrand, and several qualifications in Local Government.

He started his professional life as a Judges Clerk and Researcher for in the North Gauteng Division for a period of two years . He served his articles at the renowned law firm, Solomon Nicolson Attorneys between 2005 until 2007. Bernard has a considerable amount of experience in Local Government having served in that space for over a period of twelve years. He worked at Dipaleseng Local Municipality serving in various portfolios, namely Manager: Legal & Administration, Director: Corporate Services, Director: Planning & Economic Development. Whilst in the employ of the Municipality, he served at the IEC as a Municipal Electoral Officer for a period of twelve years, overseeing National & Provincial elections as well as Municipal elections.

He joined Ironveld in September 2022 as the Group Compliance Manager.
